ORLANDO, FL - Just 50 feet away from the gas pumps is a smoker so big a hog could fit inside.
On this particular Saturday, Chuck Cobb is only smoking parts of the pig: house-made sausage and rack after rack of ribs.
Cobb, whose tattoos from the cartoon "Rick & Morty" snake up both arms, is the owner and operator of Git-N-Messy BBQ, a barbecue joint that operates inside a gas station.
“Just ‘cause I’m in a gas station it really doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t come in and try some really damn good barbecue," Cobb said.
Cobb has worked at various restaurants during his life. Fine dining. Casual dining. Cobb was even a sushi chef. But it's barbecue - the food he grew up on - that has led him to this Citgo gas station on Hall Road near Aloma Avenue.
For Cobb, it's the perfect spot to lure in passing motorists with the smells of smoked meats. Also, he didn't have the $350,000 it can cost to start a brick-and-mortar business.
Git-N-Messy, which first opened in Sanford, has been operating in the Citgo gas station since January 2020.
