The following list represents my past experience in the world of journalism and beyond. Each opportunity has been a unique chance for me to learn and grow as a writer, videographer and storyteller.  For references or additional information about anything listed below, get in touch directly.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Storyteller who has covered breaking national news, politics, pop culture, education, religion, entertainment, food, music, the arts and sports for a large market television station and a large market newspaper

  • On-air host, one-person production unit, reporter, writer, MMJ, video anchor, social media manager, video editor and videographer with the ability to compose and edit content for multiple platforms, including television, online and print

  • Ability to seek out, find and tell good stories that are often overlooked by others

  • Ability to host live video and interview story subjects based on nearly 15 years working as a journalist

  • Knowledge of how and when to pitch a story to outside media

  •  Ability to write news stories and produce video packages under very tight deadlines

  • Ability to edit video using Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro

  • Strong sense of what works and what doesn't for online consumption 

  • Ability to shoot and edit specialized video for social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter

  •  Knowledge of mobile video production, including shooting, editing and uploading video from the field using mobile devices

  • Ability and desire to teach traditional and mobile video techniques to others

2018 to Present

  • Founder of a boutique storytelling company based in Central Florida

  • Work with small and medium-sized nonprofits and business to craft compelling content 

  • Guide clients through the storytelling process, from idea creation to the delivery of the final product

  • Stories produced for the Orlando Science Center, Clean the World, Now This News, Central Florida Foundation, Axiom Bank, Visit Orlando, Florida Community Loan Fund, Space IL, SWEAT gym, "A Mediocre Time with Tom and Dan" podcast and many more

  • Founded Orlando 60, a video series focusing on Orlando's most unique businesses and people

  • Founded Hungry Florida Man, a video series highlighting Central Florida's restaurant scene

  • Campaign coordinator for John Mina, a 27-year law enforcement veteran and former Chief of the Orlando Police Department who successfully ran for Orange County Sheriff

  • Campaign manager for Nick Fouraker, who ran successfully for the mayor of Belle Isle

  • Produced and edited a four-part series entitled "G.I. Jews" for WUCF-TV, the PBS affiliate in Orlando

  • Script writer for "Legends: Dr. John Hitt," a 26-minute special on outgoing University of Central Florida resident

THE COLLECTIVE

2017 to Present

  • Co-creator of The Collective, a networking group made up of change agents, social disruptors and nonprofits leaders trying to make a difference in the community.

  • Led and managed group of more than 350 members representing nonprofits across the region, including Second Harvest Food Bank, The Salvation Army, the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando, Clean the World, Central Florida Community Arty and Feeding Children Everywhere.

  • Host of the Change Everything Awards, an event honoring people and organizations making a difference in the Orlando community

Jan. 2017 to March 2018

  • Writer and the only on-staff videographer

  • Content creator for a variety of global brands in areas such as non-profit, transportation and education.

  • Implemented new video ideas and instructed staff on how to create video

WESH-TV AND ORLANDO MY WAY

2016

  • Entertainment reporter and multimedia journalist responsible for covering theme parks, food and fun attractions in Central Florida

  • Wrote, shot and produced the top content item on WESH.com in 2016

  • Shot and narrated WESH-TV's first 360-degree video

  •  Nearly tripled Orlando My Way’s Facebook followers

  • Added more than 150,000 followers to WESH-TV's social media accounts

  • Increased year-over-year video views on OrlandoMyWay.com by 200,000 views

  • Increased year-by-year online sessions on Orlando My Way by 600,000

  • Introduced and implemented a video policy to quickly shoot and attach video elements to nearly every story that appears on OrlandoMyWay.com

  • Hosted live shots at Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, Halloween Horror Nights, the Central Florida Fair and a moving train

ORLANDO SENTINEL

Sept. 2010 - Dec. 2015

  • General assignment reporter, videographer and online host for the newspaper and OrlandoSentinel.com

  • Videos have generated more than 5 million total views on OrlandoSentinel.com and the Orlando Sentinel’s Hulu and YouTube channels

  • Launched Orlando News Now, the daily webcast on OrlandoSentinel.com

  • Launched two video series, “Catch up with Busdeker" and “Central Florida Adventures”

  • First mobile journalist at the Orlando Sentinel

  • Expanded video coverage across OrlandoSentinel.com using a mixture of breaking news briefs, on-camera segments, live-streams, mobile video packages, in-depth news coverage, features and man-on-the-street interviews

  • Wrote, directed and starred in a "Sharknado' spoof series called "Gatorcane"

  • Hosted a 45-minute live-stream from a moving train

THE HUNTSVILLE TIMES AND AL.COM

Aug. 2007 - Sept. 2010

  • Entertainment reporter who covered the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, the Huntsville Art Museum, local theater, music and culture in North Alabama

  • Launched a weekly video series "Go:Your Good Times Magazine"

  • Expanded video coverage across AL.com

  • Joined the cast of "Harvey" to blog about local theater

  • Exposed conditions at a local theater complex that led to added funding and repairs

  • Honored with the Orlando Sentinel Journalism Award for Multimedia Storytelling

  • Honored with a Florida Society of News Editors award in 2014 and an Orlando Weekly “Best of Orlando” award in 2015

  • Named one of Editor & Publisher magazine’s “10 That Do It Right” in 2008

  •  Responsible for the creation, development and production of “An Eye on I-Drive”, a four-part series featuring 35 stories and videos about Orlando’s most unique road

  • Series of stories and videos about a man who needed a new wheelchair led to more than $20,000 in donations

  • Videos have led to sponsorships with several Orlando-area institutions, including Gatorland and Rosen Hotels
