The Voodoo Priest of Orange Blossom Trail

Writer's picture: Jon BusdekerJon Busdeker

ORLANDO, FL - The sign outside Saint Jacques Met Carnal Botanica reads: "Jinx Removal." That was enough to get me interested in the shop on Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando. And then I walked inside.

The store, owned by James Hyppolite, is a one-stop shop for all things spiritual, from candles to books on witchcraft to voodoo services. Hyppolite is a voodoo priest.

Like many of the features on Orlando 60, I had passed Saint Jacques Met Carnal many, many times. I never had a reason to stop inside until this project started in May 2018.

I'll admit my impressions of voodoo comes from zombie movies set in the Caribbean. But Hyppolite gave me a lesson in the ways of voodoo and how it's grossly misinterpreted.

If you are in the market for religious statues, incense, candles and voodoo items, stop in to Saint Jacques Met Carnal Botanica.
